Yesterday at work I was talking with one of my colleagues and friends, Doug, about various things and the topic turned to coffee; something both of us truly enjoy. Doug even went so far as to say that if had to choose between giving up beer or coffee he would choose beer. That’s not much of a choice for me since I pretty much don’t drink (no more than 1 or 2 beers in a month).
In any case we were talking about various types of coffee equipment; siphons, presses, espresso makers (stove top and electric), and coffee grinders. I mentioned that I was quite happy with my new manual coffee grinder, which I had posted a picture of to facebook a couple of weeks ago. What I didn’t mention to Doug is that with the manual grinder provides a better flavor of coffee and zero sludge in the coffee press – compared to using an electric blade grinder. I’m also able to use fewer beans for coffee of the same strength and flavor.
Doug finally recommended Green Beanery as a good place for coffee supplies in Canada. The web site looks good and they do have a large selection of coffee related supplies. One thing I am happy to note is that they have cheaper coffee roasters. One of the things on my to do list once I return to Canada is to roast my own coffee and now I know I can afford one of the lower end roasters starting at around $100. Yeah….
Here’s the picture of my coffee mill
