Ottawa July 4 to July 13

My flight to Ottawa this summer has been booked for July 4 to July 13. Well technically I’m only booked to Toronto since I’m using air miles from Korean air, but will be booking the Toronto to Ottawa portion of the flight in the next day or two. My wife booked for me, but doesn’t remember the exact arrival times and I have to wait until she gets back to the office tomorrow before I know them.

In any case I’ll be in Ottawa July 4 and will fly back to Toronto on July 12 and spend one night there assuming I can connect with some friends I have in the area. One thing I’m looking for in Ottawa is a cheap place to stay while I’m there. Cheap and clean is very important, however I don’t care about how small it is – a closet will be fine as long as there are no roaches. I had a line on a good place, but turns out it’s already booked up at that time.

I’m also going to be renting a car and if anyone can point me to a good car rental place that i can get a good deal on I’d be very happy with that.

Finally if you live in Ottawa and would like to meet up, please let me know since I only know one person and expect that my evenings will be free. I do have a large number of things to get done during the daytime, but after business hours I will be free.

Really looking forward to this trip.

Our apartment complex has guest suites it rents out to friends/family of tenants. It’s like a small hotel room except I dont’ think there’s a TV or phone or coffee maker. It’s $40 a night. I don’t think they have discounts for weekly stays. The universities also offer their residences for travellers in the summer months for about the same price and you get houskeeping and I think some sort of meal/coffee making arrangements in-room as well: University of Ottawa or Carleton

We should definitely get together when you’re in town!

XUP - thanks for those links and the offer for your complex. I don’t want to trouble you about your complex, but will definitely be contacting the University of Ottawa about staying there for the week.

100% I would love to meet you over coffee some time during that week.

for the record I edited your comment, only the links so that they didn’t break out of the page.

Yikes! I just found out that my flight arrives in Toronto at 11:50PM which means I have to overnight in Toronto since my next connecting flight will be at 7am. Not sure if I’ll book a hotel room or sleep on some benches at the airport - I would do that if i can easily find some lockers/storage for my bags so i don’t have to worry about my laptop getting stolen while I sleep.

Assuming the flight is on time, by the time you get your bags and make your way through customs it will be close to 2:00 am. Then you’ll want to be back and ready to go by 6:00 am, so it’s hardly worth a hotel room. The airport is open 24/7 with lots of stuff to do. There’s an art gallery and shops and restaurants to hang out in. I don’t think they have lockers. I can’t see that being a good security risk at an airport. But you could probably get one of the valet carts to put all your luggage in while you wander around. That’s a crazy time to be arriving!

Well, I’m embarrassed to admit that I obviously have a reading comprehension problem. I don’t arrive in Toronto at 11:50pm I leave Toronto at 11:50pm on an undetermined date as of yet. My actual arrival time is 9:30pm.

I could make it to the 00:15 flight to Ottawa, but then I still have to go through baggage, find a car rental and drive through a city I’m unfamiliar with to where I’m staying. I think it will just be better for me to spend 1 night in Toronto and catch an early morning flight to Ottawa the next day, say at 8am or 9am.
