Seoljungmae 설중매 - greatest alcohol ever

I’m not a big drinker; actually I rarely drink and always in moderation – at least for the last 8-9 years in moderation. This means I’m not a big connoisseur of alcohols and can usually make do with a beer or cheap whiskey – though I do like CuttySark (is that a good brand, I don’t know). In Korea there is one alcohol that I could drink all day everyday – it’s that good.

Seoljungmae 설중매 is a kind of plum wine and at less than $4 a bottle is cheap and damn tasty. I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to find it easily or cheaply once I move to Ottawa. Here’s a picture of the bottle.

Where’s the gold?
I judge all my Korean plum brandies on gold content.  I don’t drink them often, I prefer beer, but Matcheson is my favourite.  I may have to try Seoljungmae.

Brian,
Honestly this is the only brand I’ve tried. It was so good, I never tried another. Got a link or picture of one you like?

I brought bottles of the gold stuff home for everybody on one of my first trips back. They were pretty impressed with it, and wouldn’t believe it was as cheap as it was. I don’t see Matcheson these days though…Is it still around?

The LCBO is one of (if not THE) the largest purchasers of alchohol world-wide. I’m sure if the company can produce for export and you asked LCBO they would get it for you. Or, you’ll have to get the recipe and make your own!!

Shelley,
not sure about Matcheson.

XUP - I’ll keep that in mind once I am closer to the move to Ottawa.
