In October I’ll be traveling to New York City for a conference related to ExpressionEngine – the software I use in web development. Stayed up to 1am last night so I could buy a ticket at the early bird price (success). This morning I started looking at hotel prices and was surprised at how expensive they all are – $250 and up for hotels in Brooklyn, which is where the conference is.
On twitter there is lots of chatter about this and I’ve made a connection to possibly rent a house for a week with a couple of other people though I’m not sure what that will cost, but definitely cheaper than hotel. I’ll need a hotel from Oct 19-21 and possibly the 22nd. I’m attending the conference for October 20-21 but am planning on adding a couple of extra days for some sight seeing.
Another option that came up via twitter is going bed and breakfast with the suggestion of using AirBnB for searching. Prices are quite reasonable there ranging from $30-120. I then checked and found they have listings in Toronto which is great as I now another option other than using kijiji to find short term accommodation when I land at the end of June while I’m looking for a permanent rental.
