Stage Two - recieved a letter

Today we received the next letter from immigration. Actually this one is from the Embassy in Seoul and is to acknowledge receipt of your application for permanent residence in Canada We are also instructed to check this web site for processing times, but the real page is here. I found out the processing time is 6 months, which hasn’t changed in a real long time.

I then logged in to check when our application had been officially received, The third week of January. This means we should be finished processed around the third week of July. Unfortunately for us, we’ve booked the wife’s & kids flights to Toronto one week earlier than that. Hopefully we can get everything processed a little early.

As I mentioned in this entry we’ve been instructed to not contact the embassy about our application until the stated processing time has passed. If we do they will not respond. The only thing that we can do is send a fax or post (not email) if we wish to submit additional information or change our mailing address.

Overly time-consuming and complicated processes like this always tick me off, especially in this day and age. Nothing that happens here requires that much waiting/processing time. More countries should simply adapt the “fine, but if you screw up, we won’t cover your arse” attitude for foreigners coming in.

Ugh, burocracy.

Dave,

agreed. The best part is that they won’t communicate via email even though we included email addresses in the application. Everything has to be done by snail mail and includes notifications that this is the only copy you will receive yet they don’t send it registered mail so if it gets lost we’d never know the status of anything.

Agreed with both. For at least the past decade I’ve thought that this kind of bureaucracy shouldn’t be able to last much longer but it’s still by and large exactly the same.

What’s the processing time for an investor visa, I wonder?

Mithridates,
I’m sure it’s much faster, because business is more important than people.

Good luck with everything. I’m in the process of applying for my wife’s visa. CPC received my application (according to Canada Post) 10 days ago but I’ve heard nothing from them. I guess I have to wait until sponsorship is approved.

It’s ridiculous how bureaucratic this whole process is, and how neither the sponsors nor the applicants have any rights in the whole matter. Everything is in the hands of some petty tyrant bureaucrat.

Please, keep us posted as to your progress. I watch with keen interest…

AteThePaint, will do. Only 6 weeks until I leave and an additional 3 weeks until the wife leaves - still no word on the visa application.
