Life goes on

A couple of weeks ago I went to New York for a conference related to web development. The conference was excellent and I wrote up my thoughts on the conference on my company blog.

I really enjoyed my time there and found the city much easier to get around than Toronto. The subway in New York is very good, but not quite as good as that in Seoul. New York is really a great place for photography and I truly wish I had more than one day to roam around as I didn’t get enough shots in. I did upload two sets to flickr – one on general New York and the other on the Conference and venue.

And here are a few of the pics that I really like.

In other news, am missing life and friends in Korea alot. On facebook another one of my friends who moved back recently said that he’s having trouble making friends and that it seems like people have stopped taking applications for friends. I’m feeling the same thing. We’ve done a couple of things with people at the church we attend, have talked with the neighbors a little, but no one seems interested in connecting.

Everyone already has their friends and routine and fitting in new people is just not that easy. I understand that, but it’s still a little frustrating. At least my kids seem to be doing well. My 9 year old is struggling with understanding everything in her class, but is improving rapidly. My 5 year old is a little quieter than normal in Kindergarten but is doing well. My daughter is in Girl Guides and really enjoying just as my 5 year old is enjoying Beaver Scouts.

So far winter hasn’t hit us yet, but I’m expecting the temperature to drop soon and am not looking forward to the snow – though it will be a blast to see how much the kids enjoy snow that last for more than a couple of days and comes in large enough quantities to build a snow fort (hoping).

Hey Sean - One really important thing I have to remember when it comes to finding/making friends is that it is up to me to reach out to someone else.  If I’m expecting others to connect with me, it isn’t going to happen.  So do everything you can to reach out to others and the friendships will come in time!  Hang in there!

Jesse,
Thanks for the comment. I know it’s my job to take the initiative and I really should get on that, but it’s not really natural to me. Gotta get on that though.
